The CalArts Library Special Collections is available by appointment only.
Special Collections serves as a repository of a variety of documents and formats and supports the research activities of students, faculty, and scholars. The collection includes rare books, manuscripts, media, and ephemera. It primarily supports course work and general research within CalArts and therefore the primary subject areas for collection include the visual and performing arts and literature.
Most materials in Special Collections are cataloged and may be found searching the CalArts Library Catalog. There are a few collections that are processed and have a Finding Aid.
Accessing Special Collections
To view items from Special Collections, please fill out the request form and schedule an appointment. Special Collections materials do not circulate and must be viewed in the Special Collections and Institute Archives Reading Room.
Viewing Hours
Viewing is by appointment only and availability can widely vary. Please plan visits well in advance.
