Special Collections serves as a repository of a variety of documents and formats and supports the research activities of students, faculty and scholars. The collection includes rare books, manuscripts, media, and ephemera. It primarily supports course work and general research within CalArts and therefore the primary subject areas for collection include the visual and performing arts, and literature.
All materials in Special Collections are cataloged and may be found searching the CalArts Library Catalog. Please search the catalog, write down the call number, and present the call number to staff at the Circulation Desk who will then retrieve the materials. Special Collections materials must be used in the Library, under supervision of Circulation staff with the use of protective gloves. Special Collections materials are available Monday-Friday, 9:30 am to 4 pm.
