Bijou Theater

Library Film Services manages the Bijou Theater.  The Bijou seats 120.

The Bijou operates primarily during the regular academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and may be scheduled for CalArts classes and limited non-class usage.  After-hours (late evenings during Fall and Spring semesters, weekends, and summer) cannot be guaranteed.

The Bijou Theater may be scheduled for

  • Visiting artist / filmmaker screenings sponsored by a faculty or school program.
  • Faculty, student, staff, or alumni screenings of their work for the CalArts community.
  • Meetings or other special events for groups larger than 50.
  • Select screenings approved by Library Film Services that require a license or written permission from the copyright holder to augment research, study, or another academic purpose.

Copyright Clearance

  • Screenings other than face-to-face, classroom presentations with the instructor present are considered a ‘public performance’.  Public performance of a film requires that a license and/or written permission from the copyright holder be obtained.  (Classroom Use Exemption to Copyright law (17 U.S.C. §110(1))
