Non-Class Use

• Bijou availability is incredibly limited.
• All non-class usage is considered and approved on a case-by-case basis.
• Non-CalArts researchers may schedule the Bijou to view unique films in the Library collection that are not available in any other format from any distributor.
• Advance payment or payment arrangement is required.
• Screenings are open only to the CalArts community.
• Public performance rights have been licensed or permission from the copyright holder has been granted, when applicable.
• Admission fees or donations cannot be charged.

Licensing & Copyright Permission

Individuals who schedule screenings that are other than face to face, classroom presentation with the instructor present take full responsibility for acquiring the appropriate permissions and license from the copyright owner.

Scheduling Procedure

1. Contact the Film Services Manager at least 2 weeks in advance.
2. Complete a Bijou Reservation form.
3. Complete an Institute Event Checklist, have the Film Services Manager sign it, and return it to the Mailroom.
4. Pay in advance*:

• Pay by credit or debit card, cash or check.
• Take the signed and approved Bijou Reservation form to the Accounting Office Cashier’s window.  Hours: Monday-Friday  9:00am-12:00pm; 1:00pm-4:00pm.
• Return the cashier’s receipt to the Film Services Manager to confirm your reservation.

*Internal recharges: Account activity code is required. Contact your school or department accounting manager for the appropriate account activity code.

Non-Class Use Fees

Notify the Film Services Manager 1 week in advance if the screening or event is canceled, otherwise payment is required.

Regular Hours

$25.00 per hour
Monday–Thursday 9am – 10pm
Friday 9am – 7pm                      

After Hours   

$35.00 per hour
Outside of regular hours (late evenings, weekends & summers)

Fees help support the projectionist's pay, supplies, equipment, facilities maintenance, and upgrades.
