Non-Class Usage

Bijou Theater Non-Class Usage

Library Film Services manages the Bijou Theater.  The Bijou seats 120.

The Bijou operates primarily during the regular academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and has limited availability for scheduled non-class usage.  Not all requests can be accommodated. 

The Bijou Theater may be scheduled for

  • Visiting artist / filmmaker screenings sponsored by a faculty or school program.
  • Faculty, student, staff, or alumni screenings of their work for the CalArts community.
  • Meetings or other special events for groups larger than 50.
  • Select screenings approved by Library Film Services that require a license or written permission from the copyright holder to augment research, study, or another academic purpose.

To use the Bijou Theater

  • A projectionist must be scheduled and present for all theater use.
  • All non-class usage is considered and approved on a case-by-case basis and can only be scheduled by the Film Services Manager.
  • Theater reservations are based on space and projectionist availability and therefore should be requested well in advance.
  • Theater reservations and screenings are open only to the CalArts community.
  • Public performance rights must be licensed or permission from the copyright holder must be granted, when applicable.
  • Admission fees or donations cannot be charged or accepted.

 

Policy & Procedure

Licensing & Copyright Permission

Individuals who schedule screenings take full responsibility for acquiring the appropriate permissions or licensing agreement from the copyright owner. 

 

Scheduling Procedure

Contact the Film Services Manager at least 2 weeks in advance.

If your request is confirmed, the Film Services Manager will be in touch with instructions regarding payment, paperwork, and media delivery.

Media Delivery/Print Trafficking Prolicies

Arrangements for delivery, inspection, and preparation of screening materials must be made in coordination with the Film Services Manager. 

 

  • Video files need to be downloaded and soundchecked in advance in order to play from the equipment in the booth
    • We cannot guarantee proper playback of video files that are not received in time
  • DCPs and KDMs must be delivered to the Film Services Manager at least one week prior to the screening date in order to be ingested and tested before your screening.

Fees

Non-Class Use Fees

Notify the Film Services Manager 1 week in advance if the screening or event is canceled, otherwise payment is required.

Regular Hours

$25.00 per hour with a 1-hour minimum
Monday–Thursday 9am – 10pm
Friday 9am – 7pm           
           

After Hours   

$35.00 per hour with a 1- hour minimum
Outside of regular hours (late evenings, weekends & summers, Winter Session, & institute breaks)

Fees help support the projectionist's pay, supplies, equipment, facilities maintenance, and upgrades.
